Iran-Bangladesh Tax Treaty Takes Effect to Boost Bilateral Business Ties

A tax agreement between Iran and Bangladesh aimed at eliminating double taxation on income and curbing tax evasion and avoidance has entered into force, paving the way for greater tax certainty and closer business cooperation between the two countries.

Iran’s National Tax Administration announced that the agreement between the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh took effect on September 15, 2025, following the completion of the required legal procedures.

Under Article 30 of the agreement, its provisions began to apply in Iran on March 21, 2026, while Bangladesh began applying the agreement on July 1, 2026.

The agreement was originally signed in Tehran on October 10, 2022, by Davoud Manzour, then head of Iran’s National Tax Administration, and his Bangladeshi counterpart. It was concluded to prevent double taxation and tax evasion while facilitating business cooperation and supporting stronger trade ties between the two countries.

The agreement establishes a framework for addressing the taxation of cross-border income and is intended to reduce potential tax barriers facing Iranian and Bangladeshi businesses operating in each other’s markets.

The implementation of the agreement is expected to provide greater clarity and predictability over tax obligations for businesses and investors engaged in bilateral economic activities, while strengthening cooperation between the two countries’ tax authorities in addressing tax evasion and avoidance.

The move comes as Iran and Bangladesh seek to expand bilateral trade and encourage greater private-sector engagement, with the tax framework providing a more predictable environment for companies considering cross-border investment and commercial activities.
